Co-ordinator : Gael Marnier
Prerequisite
2MAB2
Course Objectives
Learn the effects of thermal kinetics on the microstructural transformations of metallic materials.
Understand the consequences of such transformations on the properties obtained after thermal treatments.
Syllabus
Thermal treatments (22h)
Reminder of equilibrium phase transitions and phase diagrams.
Non-equilibrium phase transformations : use of CCT and TTT diagrams.
Typical thermal treatments for steels and aluminum alloys.

Atomic diffusion (7h)
Diffusion mechanisms and phenomenon of precipitation in metallic materials.

Industrial examples (5h)
Presentation of thermal treatment issues at Faurecia Automotive Seating.
Practical work (TD or TP)
Experimental work:
- Hardenability of quenched steels
- Precipitation in aluminum alloys
- Galvanic coupling and protection against corrosion
- Optimization of the mechanical properties of steel
Acquired skills
Prediction of time dependent phase transformations through the use of CCT and TTT diagrams.
