Course Objectives
To make some reminders on basic chemistry, necessary for the understanding and the preparation of the treatments (chemical attacks, ...) and for the comprehension of the properties of the materials (base of structures/properties relations , corrosion, shaping ...)

Nomenclature in chemistry
Acid-bases, ions, carbon compounds
pH, Solubility
Degree of oxidation and Oxydo-Reduction

Metal structures: stacking, Miller index
Introduction to RX diffraction
Practical work (TD or TP)
Nomenclature: organic ions, acids / bases and inorganic compounds

pH / concentration
Electrode potential - electrochemical reaction prediction

Atom coordinates, Miller index - Family Plan series and Family Plans.
Acquired skills
Be able to recognize and name the usual compounds
Be able to identify oxidant and reductant, balance a half-reaction and calculate an electrode potential
Be able to calculate a pH
Be able to prepare a metallographic attack solution
Be able to identify and find in a crystalline plane or a family of equivalent planes by its indices
