Course Objectives
This course focus on the formability of metals in the specific case of stamping. It allows to see how to combine the knowledge acquired on materials on the one hand, and in simulation on the other hand, to solve this concrete case.

The goal is to identify the critical zones during the stamping of the part (necking / possible rupture) and to predict numerically for one or more given alloys the feasibility of this shaping.
Syllabus
The different deformation modes during the crimping of the casing will be determined as well as the response of the material to these different modes. The influence of different parameters such as friction, sheet anisotropy, ... will be evaluated.


Particular emphasis is placed on the interdependence of the two areas of "experimental" and "numerical". The experimental part will be realized on tensile machines with extensometer and strain gauges as well as on a stamping machine. Several back and forth will be made between simulation software and test machines, the two feeding each other (integration of material data in the simulation, validation of the numerical models chosen by drawing tests on simple geometry, forming limit curves, simulation of stamping the complex shape of the casing).

Knowledge of stamping technology and formability in stamping.

Practical experience of standard tensile machine tests, extensometer measurements, drawing tests, shape-limiting curve plot.

Simulation of a complex layout: knowledge and understanding of the operations and constraints of the two domains (experimental and numerical), the experiments and simulations being rarely entrusted to one unique person or service.
Using Ansys-LS Dyna and Aramis software
