Knowledge of the main fundamental reactions of organic chemistry
Course Objectives | |
The objective of this course is to allow students to discover the two main families of natural products, which are proteins and carbohydrates, and more broadly, to get an overview of the main families of biomolecules.
Syllabus | |
Proteins: structure of proteinogenic amino acids. Study of physical, optical and acid-base properties. Presentation of a few syntheses of amino acids. Study of the peptide bond and the primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structures of a protein. Modes of determination of the primary structure. Biosynthesis and peptide synthesis. Carbohydrates: D, L configurations of monosaccharides, physical properties, cyclic structures. Reactions of oxidation, reduction, homologation and degradations of monosaccharides. Study of some derivatives of sugars: vitamin C, amino sugars, nucleic acids ... Study of polysaccharides: formation, examples of diholosides, polyholosides and heterosides. |
|
Practical work (TD or TP)
Studies of industrial syntheses of methionine, L-DOPA, vitamin C ...
Acquired skills | |
At the end of the course, the student will have a good knowledge of the structure of carbohydrates and proteins as well as a good knowledge of their syntheses and the different types of applications encountered in everyday life. He will have acquired a good scientific culture in a field at the interface of chemistry and biology. This course reinforces the bases of organic synthesis by studying some reaction or biosynthetic mechanisms. |
