Power dissipation and power efficiency of an electronic circuit

Relaxation oscillators and active filter design
Syllabus
Real operational amplifier: analysis and consequences of its defects (offset, slew rate, frequency effects) on performances (Ze, Zs, gain, linearity) of amplifier circuits.
Instrumentation amplifier: architectures and applications.

Power amplifiers : internal structure, characteristics, thermal dissipation, heatsink design

Relaxation oscillator and voltage controlled oscillators (VCO) : internal structure, working principles and applications

Filter theory and design
Practical work (TD or TP)
Differential amplifier differential mode gain, common mode gain, bias currents, offset voltage, frequency effects.
Single-supply Op Amp circuits
Gain and bandwidth of Op. Amp. arrangement.
Instrumentation amplifier: Basic two and three Op Amp configurations

Class-A power amplifier : power dissipation and efficiency calculations, output current limiter
Power efficiency of a Class-B power amplifier

Analysis of a relaxation VCO

Active filter design, universal active filter,
Comparison of the characteristics of Butterworth, Tchebycheff and Bessel filters
Acquired skills
Taking into account the defects of a real circuit and impacts on the effective characteristics of the proposed system.
Selection of a component based on the adequacy of its characteristics (input and output, bandwidth, noise impedances) with the specifications of the given application.

Project management : from the block diagram to the characterization of the prototype developed.
